Curriculum Vitae
Dr. Steve (Gunnar S.) Paulsson, BA, MA (Toronto), DPhil (Oxford), is an Associate of the Centre for European, Russian and Eurasian Studies at the University of Toronto.
His book, Secret City — The Hidden Jews of Warsaw 1940–1945 (New Haven: Yale University Press 2002), won the Fraenkel Prize in Contemporary History and the Biennial Polish Studies Association/Orbis Prize. Its Polish translation (published in 2008) won the Inaugural Kazimierz Moczarski Prize.
Two of his articles have been reprinted in an anthology of “the most significant articles on the Holocaust of the past 60 years”. He has served as editor and author/compiler of two additional monographs on related topics.
He has taught at the University of Leicester (UK), the University of Oxford (UK) and the University of Toronto (Canada). He obtained his D.Phil. in modern history in 1998 from the University of Oxford, where he was a Commonwealth Scholar (a selective scholarship programme available to Canadians). Following this he became the Senior Historian of the Holocaust Exhibition Project Office at the Imperial War Museum in London, Lecturer and Koerner Fellow at Oxford University, and Resnick Fellow at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. He is the son of a Holocaust survivor.
Dr. Paulsson provided intensive lectures series at the Europa-Universität Viadrina in 2008 and 2009.
